DISABILITY ISSUES

 

Funding

  Pray that legislators will be made aware of the funding required to keep disability-related services going. Pray that group homes, nursing homes and other institutions will be able to receive the funding they need in order to thrive.  Pray that federal funding is made available.

 

Access

Pray that transit authorities enforce access laws for people with disabilities.  That taxi, bus, plane and train drivers will be made aware of access laws and follow those laws.  Pray that physical access is no longer an issue and that architects will be aware of all disability needs regarding construction.  Pray that all funding for access issues is available when needed.  Pray that disability awareness will become widespread.

 

Education And Stereotypes

Pray that there will be widespread changes in attitudes toward disabled people.  Pray that disability awareness programs become widespread.  Pray that disabled children will get the type of education they need, without fear of stereotypes and limitations caused by attitudinal barriers.  That adults with disabilities will get jobs in their desired fields without discrimination or other attitudinal barriers.  Pray that the disabled adults won't be labeled and just shoved into foster or group homes.  Pray that people with multiple disabilities will be encouraged to live as independent as possible.  Pray that the family members of those with disabilities will seek to be truly accepting of that person's disability and special needs.  Pray that the family members will not limit their disabled family member.   Pray that caregivers will get the education and backup help they need and not become burned out at their jobs.

 

Disability Abuse

 Pray that people who care for the disabled will learn to manage their anger before becoming abusive. Help them to practice utilizing good communication skills, as well as, taking frequent stress relieving breaks.  Pray that the disabled will get the help they need when abuse has occurred, and that they will be believed.  Pray that those officials who are dealing with disability abuse cases will be both thorough and fair. Also, pray that strict enforcement of anti-abuse laws will be upheld.   Pray that no disabled person will be afraid to report abuse or other crimes when they occur. 

 

Equipment

  Pray that disabled people will be able to get the equipment they require to function as non-disabled people do.   Pray that prices for equipment will come down. Pray that there will be more availability for funding for such equipment.
